Foreign Institutional Investors Highlight Taiwan FINI 100 Companies, Ushering in the AI 3.0 Era
The only Taiwan corporate ranking evaluated from the perspective of foreign institutional investors, the “Foreign Institutional Investors Taiwan Top 100 (Taiwan FINI 100) ”, was officially unveiled today.
Now in its fourth year, the awards ceremony welcomed nearly 150 corporate representatives in person and over 300 distinguished guests from government, business, and capital markets, underscoring the rising influence of Taiwanese enterprises in the international investment community.
This year, in addition to recognizing the “Taiwan FINI 100 Companies (Foreign Institutional Investors)” and the “Taiwan FINI FIG 10 (Financial Institutions Group)”, the Taiwan Institute of Directors (TWIOD) also introduced the “Taiwan Best-In-Class Companies” list—highlighting not only industry leaders but also Taiwan’s fast-growing new generation of enterprises.
Opportunities in the AI Era
During the ceremony, speakers shared insights on the opportunities and challenges brought by artificial intelligence.
-
Prof. Shih-Chun Hsu, Founding Chairman of TWIOD, emphasized that in the AI era, capital has evolved from a purely financial role into a driver of strategy and intelligence, with Foreign Institutional Investors fueling a new wave of industrial upgrading.
-
Janée Pierre-Louis, Chief of the Commercial Section at the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), reaffirmed Taiwan’s pivotal role in semiconductors and AI, calling for deeper collaboration and adding in Mandarin, “Let’s create the AI future together.”
-
Sherman Lin, Chairman of the Taiwan Stock Exchange, and Charles Twu, Deputy General Manager of the Taipei Exchange, stressed that Taiwan’s corporate excellence has already earned strong international investor confidence, and local enterprises should seize AI-driven opportunities for growth.
Foreign Institutional Investors as a Standard-Setter
Foreign Institutional Investors currently hold over NT$32 trillion in Taiwan equities—nearly 40% of market capitalization—making them a central driving force of Taiwan’s capital market. TWIOD noted that beyond being a source of capital, Foreign Institutional Investors also represent international benchmarks in financial soundness, corporate governance, management quality, and strategic vision. Recognition from Foreign Institutional Investors signals not only strong stock performance but also global endorsement.
The Taiwan FINI 100 list, the first and only ranking from the perspective of Foreign Institutional Investors in Taiwan, has been released annually for four years. Its value lies not only in the ranking itself but also in providing a platform for dialogue between Foreign Institutional Investors and local enterprises—bridging “good companies” with “good capital” while offering global standards for corporate governance and development.
Insights from the Forum: Liquidity and Visibility Matter
Alongside the awards, the Forum was held under the theme “AI-Driven Taiwan 3.0: The next step”, moderated by Prof. Shean-Bii Chiu of Chang Gung University.
-
Oliver Lee, Head of Taiwan Equity Strategy at BlackRock, observed that Taiwan’s stock market is experiencing momentum comparable to the PC boom of the 1990s, with the U.S.-China tech rivalry driving industrial reshoring and Taiwan reemerging at the center of the AI supply chain.
-
Randy Abrams, Head of Taiwan Research at UBS Securities, highlighted Taiwan’s strength in its complete ecosystem, noting that Foreign Institutional Investors can meet with over 20 companies in a week while identifying businesses gaining market share in future growth sectors.
-
Yung-Hui Li, Director, Artificial Intelligence Research Center, Hon Hai Research Institute, shared how the company has developed its own large language model over the past four years, providing AI infrastructure for smart EVs, manufacturing, and urban platforms.
Foreign Institutional investor representatives stressed that while financial metrics are important, transparency and governance are key to attracting long-term capital. Active board involvement in strategy, succession planning, and professionalized management all build international investor trust.
For small and mid-sized enterprises, investors advised taking proactive steps toward internationalization—beginning with support from domestic investment trusts and gradually drawing foreign capital. Establishing investor relations sections, publishing English-language disclosures, and maintaining bilingual websites are considered essential for visibility and liquidity.
Looking Ahead
As global capital markets undergo rapid transformation, Taiwan needs more companies to gain international recognition. The FINI 100 Companies represents the nation’s international corporate champions, while the Emerging Mid-Sized Companies are poised to become the growth engine of the future. In the AI 3.0 era, aligning with international standards will empower these enterprises to drive Taiwan’s next wave of growth.
TWIOD will continue to leverage the Taiwan FINI 100 rankings and forums to connect enterprises with global capital, ensuring that Foreign Institutional Investors see Taiwan—and that the world recognizes the diverse competitiveness of Taiwan’s industries.
